roll up, roll up: a poem

vivatramp the nonsense show eric carle childrens books gift guide

ROLL UP, ROLL UP

roll up, roll up, to the nonsense show!
see a duck walk around on his feet
see a deer with flowers where antlers used to grow
and a taxi run along down the street

there's a man who eats cake from the ceiling
and a sun that shines with a smile
you see things here have no real meaning
but we'd love you to stay all the while

our birds may not fly as they're meant to
and our cat runs away from a mouse
but wouldn't it be fun if nonsense were, too,
a welcome guest in your house

'roll up, roll up' is a poem that I wrote in 2015, in collaboration with Puffin Books, to celebrate the release of Eric Carle's The Nonsense Show. The Nonsense Show celebrates absurdity, the surreal and the wild imaginations of children with both beautiful illustrations and teeny tiny stories along the way. If you liked this, why not read some more omy creative writing?

*I was sent this book for review by the publisher.

  2. This is lovely! The Very Hungry Caterpillar was definitely a favourite of mine when I was younger. I'd actually quite like to pick it up and read it again after reading this post!!
